RAW Files Import Now Available for Android Devices

RAW Files Import Now Available for Android Devices on The Apps Depot Blog

Adobe Lightroom is working with another format from now on. In case you don’t know what the RAW files are, they are photos, which not yet processed and therefore are not ready to be printed. But what they are good for is precise editing with minimal or no loss of quality before conversion into more familiar JPEG.

Prior to the update, Lightroom could edit only a generic format called DNG. And now it significantly widened its range to the formats like .raw, .rw2, .cr2, .orf, .nef and more.

Now you get to import your files directly from your camera to Android device.

How to import raw files

Here is a short guide how to do it:

  • Get a USB OTG (On-The-Go) cable or adapter;
  • Plug your camera into your Android device;
  • Change to the PTP transfer mode in the Android Notification Center;
  • Tap on the notification that indicates “Connected to USB PTP Camera. Tap to view files”;
  • Select from the photos found on your camera to import into Lightroom on your Android device.

Following these steps, Lightroom will transfer the photos and notify you once all of the photos are in. Once they are, it's all yours to own and edit.

Have you ever worked with RAW files? Which apps do you use for photo editing? Let us know in the comments below.
